Are loving someone and being loved the same thing?

I don't think they are. Loving someone is my choice. I don't love someone only because they love me back. For me, love also means continuing to try, continuing to learn, continuing to understand the other person. Nobody starts a relationship planning to break up. Nobody gets married planning to divorce. I got divorced, though. Haha. Nothing is guaranteed. Maybe that's exactly why I don't want to spend my whole life being too scared to do anything. If I love someone, I want to love them. After that, life will do what it does. Someone I've loved that deeply doesn't completely disappear from inside me just because the shape of the relationship changes. At least, that has been true for me.
