What does it mean to protect someone you love?

For me, looking uncool doesn't matter very much. I can crawl. I can get dirty. I'd rather do that than become someone who couldn't be there for the people I love. But I don't mean, “I can destroy myself as long as I protect them.” I want to come home. I want to come back alive. There are people who would be hurt if I disappeared. So I don't think breaking myself is the same thing as protecting someone. When I look back, the person I've had to face most often in life has been myself. In work and in love, if I want to be beside someone wonderful, I want to become a little more worthy of that too. That's how I think about it. I don't believe my life changes just because I wait for it to.
